FIFA launches ad-funded streaming service

FIFA, the governing body of international football worldwide, has launched a new digital platform ‘FIFA Plus’ with plans to stream 40,000 live games per year, along with the platform featuring past games and films. The platform is available worldwide in multiple languages and will operate on an AVOD model.


The FIFA Plus archive will launch with more than 2,500 videos dating back to the 1950s, with more to be added.


Zalando Implications


This could be an interesting platform to follow and continues the growing trend of an increasing number of AVOD services. It could also be interesting as another specific platform to target sports fans on. Whether the platform will be a success remains to be seen but FIFA will no doubt be launching this and hoping to push uptake during the 2022 World Cup in Qatar from November to December.
