Disney Plus to launch ad-supported plan

In a first for Disney’s flagship streaming service, Disney+ will launch an ad-supported subscription plan later this year. The streaming service will launch initially in the US in late 2022, with plans to launch internationally in 2023.
Disney said the ad-supported version of Disney Plus will help them towards their target of reaching 230 million Disney Plus subscribers by the end of 2024.
This is relevant as there is a growing trend towards various broadcasters and streaming companies launching AVOD services either as an alternative to, or a compliment to SVOD services. This simply means more advertising opportunities and another platform with high subscriber rate that could potentially be able to reach a wide audience and could see companies such as Netflix launch their own AVOD service.
